Description
The Programme for Thursday March 25th starting at 8pm will features the following 5 TED Videos:
Theme: RETHINKING POVERTY
Shaffi Mather: A New Way to Fight Corruption
Shaffi Mather (founder of 1298 for Ambulance, Education Access for All, and co-promoter of Moksha-Yug Access) explains why he left his first career to become a social entrepreneur, providing life-saving transportation with his company 1298 for Ambulance. Now, he has a new idea and plans to begin a company to fight the booming business of corruption in public service, eliminating it one bribe at a time.
Jacqueline Novogratz: Escaping Poverty
Jacqueline Novogratz founded and leads Acumen Fund, a nonprofit that takes a businesslike approach to improving the lives of the poor. In this talk she tells a moving story of an encounter in a Nairobi slum with Jane, a former prostitute, whose dreams of escaping poverty, of becoming a doctor and of getting married were fulfilled in an unexpected way.

Willam Kamkwamba: How I Harnessed the Wind
At age 14, in poverty and famine, a Malawian boy built a windmill to power his family’s home. Now at 22, William Kamkwamba, who speaks at TED, here, for the second time, shares in his own words the moving tale of invention that changed his life.
Katherine Fulton: You are the Future of Philanthropy
In this uplifting talk, Katherine Fulton sketches the new future of philanthropy — one where collaboration and innovation allow regular people to do big things, even when money is scarce. Giving five practical examples of crowd-driven philanthropy, she calls for a new generation of citizen leaders. President of Monitor Institute, Katherine Fulton is also a strategist, author, teacher and speaker working for social change.
Katherine Novogratz: A Third Way to Think about Aid
The debate over foreign aid often pits those who mistrust “charity” against those who mistrust reliance on the markets. Jacqueline Novogratz proposes a middle way she calls patient capital, with promising examples of entrepreneurial innovation driving social change.
A Discussion will follow with tea/coffee and biscuits.
