Book Launch – A Feast From Nature
HERITAGE MONTH BOOK LAUNCH RELATE TO OUR EARLY FOOD CULTURES
17:30-19:30
14 September 2018
It may interest you, and some of your friends, that I will be doing a launch of the re-publication of the late Renata Coetzee’s last book, A FEAST FROM NATURE at At Novalis Ubuntu Institute in Wynberg, on Friday 14 September, 17:30 for 18:00 to 20:00 – in collaboration with MENNGOS Organic Foods and the Centre of Excellence in Food Security. This launch will be in more depth, with 4 speakers, each briefly covering a different aspect of the book:
Truida Prekel, editor and innovation catalyst – An overview of the book and of Renata’s work
Sue Kingma, entrepreneur and designer – Design and creativity around plants
Bertus Louw, film maker and presenter on 50/50 – Environmental aspects related to A Feast From Nature
Ndiko Ludidi, Prof and Head of Plant Biotechnology at UWC – Developing indigenous plants for future food security.
I attach the invitation to the Novalis event – please RSVP by e-mail to me, or to Petrina Roberts at MENNGOS.
Sadly, Renata passed away in June 2018, but we managed to re-publish FEAST (which I had edited for the 2015 edition) while she was still with us. I attach an article about the book, and an article that appeared in Business Day about a dinner and launch that University of Pretoria arranged for 18 July – all based on her work.
I am excited that we will be working with the Centre of Excellence in Food Security at UWC and UP to ensure that the valuable knowledge that Renata gathered over 5 decades about our various SA food cultures is taken further, both by research to develop new sources of food, and to build intercultural understanding – in particular of the role of the ancestors of the Khoi-Khoin in the early development of humanity. And Bertus is working on a TV film to spread the valuable knowledge further.
The book will be available for sale
